Schools, nonprofits & community programs

Bring the question.
We’ll bring the case.

Give students a reason to use math—and a room where their thinking matters. Let’s plan a facilitated workshop or short series for your school or organization.

Our planning notebook

Your students.
A shared question.
A case worth exploring.

Who’s in the room?Your student group
What’s the focus?Your learning goals

Ways to work together

A format that fits your setting.

We’ll agree on the case, timing, group size, and support needed before the workshop.

01 / A SINGLE WORKSHOP

One question.
A fresh perspective.

A focused case experience for a classroom, enrichment block, community event, or special program day. Students explore a scenario and use math to make a decision.

02 / A SHORT SERIES

Time to go
a little deeper.

Explore a case over multiple sessions or build a sequence across themes. Revisit ideas, develop routines, and give students more opportunities to explain their reasoning.

03 / YOUR PROGRAM

School-day or
after-school.

Bring Math Cases into a school, nonprofit, or community setting. We’ll discuss your existing timetable and student needs to find a workable fit.

What Math Cases provides

The plan, the materials,
and a reason to engage.

  • Case selection matched to the students and math focus
  • Hands-on materials and student work pages
  • Facilitated investigation and discussion
  • Focused mathematical guidance as students need it
  • A Connect to Your World reflection
  • Learning checks or a partner recap, by agreement
Why this approach

For the student who says,
“I’m not a math person.”

A physical model, a familiar context, or a debatable choice gives students somewhere to begin. The goal is to help them participate, practice grade-level math, and see their thinking as valuable.

A CONCRETE START

Something to explore.

Materials and scenarios make an abstract idea visible before formal notation arrives.

STUDENT VOICE

Something to say.

Students make choices, compare approaches, and explain why their reasoning makes sense.

A MATHEMATICAL PURPOSE

Something to figure out.

New techniques help students answer the question at the center of the case.

PERSONAL CONNECTION

Something to take away.

A closing reflection invites students to connect the math to a question in their own lives.

Start a conversation

Tell Melissa about
your students.

Share a few details about your school or organization and the experience you have in mind. We’ll discuss fit, scheduling, and a workshop quote.

For nonprofits, include any budget constraints or access goals so we can discuss what’s feasible.

This prepares a draft in your email app. Review and send it to Melissa to start the conversation. Please include program details rather than individual student information.

Planning details

Good questions
before we begin.

Which grades can you work with?

Math Cases primarily serves grades 5–8, with selected high school cases. Browse the library for grade bands and mathematical focus, or share your current learning goals so we can discuss a fit.

How long is a workshop?

Timing depends on the case and your schedule. Some cases work as a single workshop; others can unfold over multiple sessions. We’ll agree on a session plan before booking.

What does our organization need to provide?

A suitable space, an agreed student group, and an on-site staff contact. We’ll confirm room setup, staffing, accessibility needs, and any technology requirements during planning.

How much does it cost?

Quotes depend on the format, group size, location, materials, and number of sessions. Share those details for a specific quote. Nonprofits are welcome to include budget constraints in the inquiry.

Can we focus on a particular math topic?

Yes. Tell Melissa which concepts your students are working on, and we can discuss an existing case that fits. The library includes business, geometry, data, music, and other themes.
